Jol rules out Berbatov move

Martin Jol has moved quickly to quash rumours that a switch to Fulham is on the cards for Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

Rumours arose on Friday that the Bulgarian, who will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season according to boss Sir Alex Ferguson, could be lining up for a move to Craven Cottage by his former manager at Tottenham.

The 56-year-old Dutchman brought Berbatov to England from Bayer Leverkusen, and the forward immediately flourished in a striking partnership with Robbie Keane at White Hart Lane, notching 23 goals in each of his two seasons there.

Following a 30-million-pound move to United in 2008, the talented forward has failed to earn a regular starting berth and, despite his admiration for the player, Jol believes Berbatov will only leave for a club who are at the same level as his current side.

Berbatov is a player who I don t think would go to a side who are not as good as Manchester United because he is a top, top player, Jol said.

Even when he was not a regular, I think there was a spell where he was the top scorer in England with over 20 goals.

Any good player would do well here and he would score a lot of goals but he is a confidence player.

He is so talented and gifted, that it tells you about the quality in the Manchester United squad.
